Glooko IOS + Android

Role: Design strategy, research, UX design, visual design
Background
Glooko, is an app that helps people manage their Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1’s who are born with the condition, continually check their A1C levels. Type 2’s are people that have become diabetic later in life, due to a poor diet and lack of activity. Their older app was data driven for T1’s but was complicated for T2’s.
A partnership with Pharmaceutical giant, Novo Nordisk meant a chance to update the app, since it would be offered to patients worldwide. It was also an opportunity to access their content library of lessons for patients.

Existing app problems: Home page lacked hierarchy; Trends and Graphs were in a combined view; Navigation was confusing especially when viewing the logging history.
The Journey
After interviewing stakeholders and users, as well as gathering data from the current app, explorations were conducted to make improvements around architecture, navigation, information hierarchy and integrating content into a new “Learn” section.
The home screen was more manageable with set time frames, a section was added just for logging and historical data, and Trends and Graphs were separated so patients could toggle between insights and a data visualization view.

The deal was a catalyst for a merger with Diasend, a digital diabetes company in Sweden that has memberships throughout Europe
10K downloads in the first month, and thousands since. The app continues to rate at 4.7 stars out of 5.
The app became the standard for Glooko’s own core app.
